Vellutini Ranch
The Vellutini Ranch is bordered on the east by Jackass Hill and on the south by Jackass Vineyard, sharing the same Franciscan soil type. Lee and Carolyn Martinelli hired their teenaged grandson, Anthony Britton, Jr., to help plant the steep slope with Zinfandel in 1999. The two vineyards are comprised of eight small blocks. The Zinfandel is planted with bud wood from the Martinelli family’s centurion grapevines Jackass Hill and Jackass Vineyard. Cases Produced: 375

"A tasting at Martinelli is never complete without a look at their historic Zinfandels. The medium dark garnet-colored 2008 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch (92 Pts) reveals peppery incense notes intermixed with notions of smoked meats, herbs, kirsch, figs and wood spice. This rich, full-bodied, impressive Zinfandel should drink well for 8-10 years." - 92 points, Robert M. Parker, Jr. The Wine Advocate.
"2008 Martinelli Vineyards Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch Russian River Valley - Deep, bright ruby. Seductive aromas of blackberry, cherry-cola and incense accented by violet and rose. Full-bodied, gently sweet dark berry flavors are complicated by musky herbal and floral qualities. The lush fruit quickly absorbs the dusty tannins and lingers with impressive, spice-driven persistence. This would be great with a strongly seasoned piece of grilled lamb." - 91 points, Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
