The Vellutini Ranch is bordered on the east by Jackass Hill and on the south by Jackass Vineyard, sharing the same Franciscan soil type. Lee and Carolyn Martinelli hired their teenaged grandson, Anthony Britton, Jr., to help plant the steep slope with Zinfandel in 1999. The two vineyards are comprised of eight small blocks. The Zinfandel is planted with bud wood from the Martinelli family’s centurion grapevines Jackass Hill and Jackass Vineyard.

"The 2009 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch is a deep, plush wine loaded with black cherries, plums, tobacco, incense, licorice and sweet spices. It shows tremendous depth and persistence throughout. Silky tannins frame a finish laced with chocolate, mocha and licorice. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." - 92 points, Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate.
