Growing Year Info

This year was challenging. The growing season started with unseasonable rain storms in the spring, followed by periods of warm and cold that eventually finished up with above normal summer-heat and a prolonged warm fall. Pinot Noir vineyards were particularly affected by this. It's this type of growing season that puts our farmers to the test in their farming practices. The poor fruit set due to the wet weather lead to small clusters. In a vintage where the vines are trying to catch up, one of the advantages of smaller clusters is that each vine has less fruit to ripen. Fruit quality benefited greatly from the longer hang time that this vintage was blessed with allowing for darker, more concentrated flavors.
