Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel 2002

The Wine Advocate

The 2002 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (485 cases, 16.5% alcohol) may be my favorite Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel made to date. It tasted just as compelling as its more expensive, limited production sibling, the Jackass Hill. Deep plum/purple-colored with a gorgeous perfume of currants, plums, figs, blueberries, and blackberries macerated in brandy, this full-bodied, rich, layered wine represents the essence of this varietal. There is not a hard edge to be found in this viscous, earthy, smoky offering. The quintessential kick ass Zinfandel from California, there is nothing quite like it produced anywhere else in the world. If you want low alcohol, elegant reds, choose something from Europe. This amazing offering will drink well for 7-8 years.
